Today there has been alot of talk about Muslims being able to be included as members of the American household. Senator John McCain made his opinions clear in a recorded interview with Beliefnet. He was asked whether a Muslim candidate for president was a viable option. McCain made an unfortunate mistake, by speaking his mind. It seems no matter what you say or do, there is a strong racism on the Republican side against Islam and Muslims.
Jonh McCain has tried to backpedal by saying, "I admire the Islam. There are a lot of good principles in it." Unfortunately, this is just another demonstration that many people in the West are actually clueless to the fundamentals of the religion. They have been taught to see Islam as foreign and as nothing to do with Christianity or Judaism. Members of the Jewish community were also offended by McCain's remarks that this country should be led by a Christian and is established as a Christian nation.
Not that this is a justification for terrorism, but it at least shines a light on why some people may consider the current struggles of the American military as a Christian Crusade. When the leadership of the nation declare this democracy a Christian Kingdom, it is hard to argue to Muslim fundamentalists that America is not against Islam.
