I remember waiting, being excited and anxious as a Muslim, just like everyone else in the United States.
There was an excitement and anticipation, standing in line to see or hear, of the chance that was going to come. The thought of being able to bite down violently into the new, tasty, exotic, luxury treat. Being a Muslim in
America makes no difference. I was like everyone else. I wanted those Krispy Kreme doughnuts, even if it meant having to stand in line and wait for what was almost hours in the beginning. Eventually the story faded; the glamor and excitement of a dozen glazed just lost their luster.

Now, there is pretty much the same reaction from the majority of the Muslim world to the new Osama Bin Laden audio. Does anyone even care anymore about his opinion? Yes, it is true in the educated Muslim world, he is not considered a sheik or scholar. Why is his opinion even a matter of concern? I suppose that it is necessary to at least pay a little attention to him, in case there is something new or exciting coming out. However, it should be with the same amount of importance you would give to a new kind of topping on your donut.
Al-Qaeda was made famous by President Bush and because Osama Bin Laden was able to manipulate the press and master the art of viral video. At this point, I feel like I am on my 7th or 8th donut, and I don't really care what Osama has to say anymore.
Usama Bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda network are exactly like Krispy Kreme, the trend is over and the fad is gone. If the Bush administration stopped
talking about them, the people would realize that the franchise is not worth their value anymore.

if i had only turned bin laden in when i first saw him working at the counter at Quick Stop perhaps a lot of suffering could have been prevented. Now all I can do as a consumer is shop elsewhere.

I hear that! When I lived in Tucson there was this amazing little bakery called La Cave's. Delicious donuts, kicked crispy kreme down the stairs. But everyone was always goin to get KKs and I was like "Yo, why follow the trend? You can get better stuff, for cheaper, and have the money stay in our community, and it's closer to where most of you work" but nobody listened."
Similarly, I've heard a lot of imams with maybe a dozen listeners give these wonderful, inspiring little lectures. Nobody knows who wasn't there, and there's no tape. But everyone wants to talk about Zarqawi and Bin Laden. Man, who cares?
Cool blog. I linked to you, hope you don't mind.
